I’ll bet it wasn’t to spend hours in a spreadsheet or accounting software making sure numbers line up, Uncle Sam gets his cut, and you’re making enough to pay rent.
You were supposed to be able to just do your craft… and get paid too.

What sucks the most energy?
I don’t know about you, but taking 5 minutes to do something I hate feels like 3 weeks, and getting to do 3 weeks of the work I love feels like 5 minutes.
